On Thursday morning, the RCMP was able to track down and recover a vehicle that was stolen from the long-term parking lot at Kelowna International Airport (YLW).

Officers located the GMC Sierra in the 200 block of Hwy 33 East in Rutland and safely tracked it to a nearby convenience store.

They were able to arrest the man behind the wheel and a subsequent search turned up a weapon on his person, along with stolen items belonging to the truck’s rightful owner.

“Additional stolen items were located inside the vehicle,” noted an RCMP release. “Investigators are still working on determining their origin.”

James Field has now been charged with multiple offences in relation to the theft of the vehicle, including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and was due in court today.

“The Kelowna RCMP continues to proactively investigate offences within the community including property crimes, as part of their crime reduction strategy focusing on repeat and active offenders,” noted Cpl. Guillaume Tanguay.

In the wake of this theft, police are reminding people to secure their vehicles and possessions by either removing or completely hiding them when your car or truck is left unattended.
