A man who got lost along ATV trails in West Kelowna was rescued just after midnight this morning.

Volunteers from Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) had to search for several hours to find the missing UTV rider in the Bartley Road area.

They were first called by the RCMP at about 7:20 pm on Sunday night.

The man had become separated from his friend.

Despite searching for several hours himself, the friend could not find his missing partner.

COSAR later dispatched 16 volunteers in the search for the man, finding him at about 12:30 am.

"Due to his location and the deep snow still in the area, it took another three hours to get the man out," said search manager Duane Tresnich.

Tresnich added that outdoor enthusiasts should ensure they have the 10 essentials when exploring.
