Plans have been submitted for the first new commercial buildings in the Ponds village centre in the Upper Mission.

The three properties would be located across 1090 Frost road and 988 Frost Road, near the intersection of Gordon Drive and Frost Road.

Design plans indicate the buildings would be one storey each and would be suitable for retail stores.

The proposed location is about seven acres in size and  is designated as a village centre.

An application explains that the buildings would serve the immediate surrounding area, providing basic day-to-day services for the surrounding Pond neighbourhood.

“The development integrates small-scale spaces where the public can experience and participate in local cultural programs,” reads the application.

“Opportunities for local art exist within the public spaces.”

The design of the buildings would include “stylized” wood trestle elements that are a nod to the train trestles in eastern Kelowna.

In mid-May, Kelowna City Council approved the next phase of the Ponds development which includes the village centre and nearly 300 units.

A recent public hearing gathered public feedback on another part of this neighbourhood which includes the development of a 32 lot subdivision.
