On Monday, city council approved Starbucks’ 15th franchise location in Kelowna.

The newest coffee shop will replace the long standing Taco Time located on the corner of Highway 97 and Leckie Road in the Dilworth Shopping Centre.

The building’s already constructed drive-thru service and an outdoor patio will remain, but will be redesigned in the standard Starbucks aesthetic.

Councillor Ryan Donn voted for the new drive-thru featuring Starbucks despite recently opposing a new Tim Hortons a block down the highway because of the restaurant's drive-thru service in a walkable area.

“I want to comment that I am voting for this because the drive-thru is pre-existing to the building,” said councillor Donn before the vote.

According to a report from city planners, the new Starbucks would have to be constructed within the next two years as per the issued permit.
