Ask any health care worker or frequent visitor to Kelowna General Hospital about parking and be prepared for an exaggerated eye roll.

The lack of on-site parking at KGH has become a long-standing issue, one exaggerated by the loss of 62 parking stalls during the construction of JoeAnna’s House.

City council will now have an opportunity to provide some relief when it considers plans for a new 24-hour staff parking lot across from KGH.

City staff is recommending support for the project citing a growing demand for parking in the area.

A report by city planners in 2019 identified the need for up to 400 more parking stalls at KGH.

If approved, the new parking lot would consolidate five properties under the ownership of Interior Health and the City of Kelowna.
