The Kelowna RCMP says it does not believe criminality is involved in the death of a local woman whose body was found along the Mission Creek Greenway on Thursday.

Police were called to the Greenway near Mission Creek Park around 3:10 pm after the body was discovered by members of the public.

“In partnership with the BC Coroners Service, a full and comprehensive investigation is being conducted,” the RCMP noted. “At this time, there is no evidence to suggest any criminality was involved in this woman’s death.”

The deceased woman has since been identified online by family and friends as Jodi Chmilar.

A fundraiser has been created by Tami Johnson to help her family with funeral arrangements and support her son Ryan in the days, weeks and months ahead.

“Jodi leaves behind her son Ryan who no doubt will need all the love and support we can show him at this time,” Johnson wrote on the GoFundMe page.

She added that Chmilar’s “infectious laugh and fun loving spirit will be missed by all those she touched in some way.”

Johnson also noted that it’s still an open investigation into Chmilar’s death and there is not a lot of information available at this time.
