A longtime Okanagan DJ has had a health setback and the community is stepping in to help.

Led by the OK Corral Cabaret, a tailgate fundraiser has been organized for Saturday, August 12th to raise funds for Dave Dobie.

Dobie has been a DJ at the cabaret for decades, donating his time for many auctions and fundraisers.

According to OK Corral manager, Andy Bowie, Dobie went in for colon surgery at Vernon Jubilee Hospital a few weeks ago.

As of this past week, he’s now back in the hospital’s intensive care unit and is battling pneumonia.

Bowie admits that fundraisers are difficult during the summer months with so many people on vacation and province wide wildfires taking up a lot of people’s attention, but “when one of our long time employees gets sick, we have to help them.”

“Dobie is one of a number of staff members that has helped build the great business that the OK Corral has today,” he added. “It’s the least we can do for our friend and coworker.”

The tailgate starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the OK Corral Cabaret and will feature hot dogs by donation, as well as Budweiser and Bud Light on special with half the cost going to Dobie.

There will also be a silent auction and anyone who wants to donate to it can drop off items at the OK Corral Beer Store.
