A thief who made off with Pulp Fiction employees’ hard-earned tips was stymied by an off-duty RCMP officer visiting Kelowna.
According to the coffee house’s owner, Max Sloan, he was sitting in his office doing paperwork when he noticed the young man steal the money off the counter and flee the store.
“I was angry and without thinking of the consequences (I) chased him on his bicycle,” he explained through a Facebook post. “As I was getting close to grabbing him, an arm went past mine and caught the thief momentarily.”
Sloan continued on to say that the thief broke free and continued down a back alley with the “young lady” in hot pursuit.
Unfortunately for the thief, the Good Samaritan who was hot on his tail was Cst. Debra Wash, a member of the Spruce Grove RCMP.
Wash eventually caught the thief and took him down, holding him while another citizen, a NowMedia reporter, called the police.
Sloan says when Wash saw him bolt out the coffee house’s doors in pursuit of the thief, she immediately went from vacation mode to police mode.
“When Debra saw me running, she instinctively followed, but of course was much younger and faster,” said Sloan. “At the time of the incident, she was texting her boyfriend telling him what a cool place Pulp Fiction Coffee House was and in the process of snapping (the photo seen above).”
Hopefully Wash got a chance to finish her coffee and retake that photo.
She revealed through Pulp Fiction's Facebook post that it's her first day in town visiting with her mom.
The thief was brought into custody shortly before 10 a.m., but according to the NowMedia reporter who called 911, he was seen roaming the streets downtown again no later than 1 p.m.
