An Okanagan man has been charged with multiple assault charges after an altercation with Vancouver police officers.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, Paul Edison, of Penticton, allegedly assaulted two VPD officers at about 2 a.m. causing significant injuries.

One officer was rushed to hospital with compound leg fractures. The other was treated for several sprained fingers.

Crown Counsel has now approved criminal charges against Mr. Edison related to aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, assaulting a police officer, and uttering threats.

The officer with the broken leg required emergency surgery and is recovering in hospital. The second injured officer was treated at hospital and released.

“Our frontline patrol officers deal with challenging situations on a daily basis. They are required to continually get in harm’s way to protect the citizens they serve,” says Sergeant Jason Robillard, VPD. “We wish our injured officers a speedy recovery.”
