Over a hundred affordable rental homes are coming to Kelowna.

The project, designed for seniors and single parents, is being overseen by the provincial government, in partnership with the National Society of Hope.

Construction on the 122 new homes at 2175 Benvoulin Court will begin in February 2021.

Several hundred other new affordable homes across the province were also announced at the same time as the Kelowna project.

They are managed through the Building BC: Community Housing Fund.

"The Community Housing Fund is about just that – community,” Minister of Housing Selina Robinson said.

“Through this program, we are working with our partners to build thousands of new homes that are affordable for a mix of people, from growing families to seniors on fixed incomes.”

The fund supports mixed-income buildings where 50% of the units are for households with incomes up to $64,000, 30% of the units are for households with incomes up to approximately $74,000, and 20% of the units are for households with very low incomes (including those on income or disability assistance).

Other projects announced yesterday include 114 homes in Vancouver, 100 homes in Surrey and 58 homes in Langford.

Over 25,000 homes are either complete or under construction across BC through the province's Homes for BC 10-year housing plan.
