Sunday's night sky cleared up just in time for an epic astronomical show.

A rare "super blood moon" eclipse appeared across the province, an occurrence that experts say has only happened three times in the past two centuries.

According to NASA, the name refers to “super” because the Moon will be closest to Earth in its orbit during the full moon and “blood" because the total lunar eclipse will turn the Moon a reddish hue.

Kelowna residents had their camera's ready to go and captured some amazing photos, here are some of our favourites with the #kelownanow hashtag on Instagram.
