The City of Kelowna has provided a number of updates regarding facilities and park closures as we get into the warmer spring weeks.

On Wednesday, April 1, park washrooms along the city’s waterfront will open for the summer.

That includes public washrooms from Rotary Park to Sutherland Park, along with washrooms at Knox Mountain Park, Cameron Park and Osprey Park.

“Enhanced cleaning will occur multiple times daily at these washroom facilities until further notice,” said a release from the City.

“Moving ahead with the seasonal opening of park washrooms follows the advice of public health experts in taking steps to provide public hand washing facilities to limit the spread of COVID-19.”

All park washrooms, excluding those in City Park, Stuart Park and Gertsmar Park, close seasonally to prevent pipes from freezing over the winter.

The City has also released information stating that Knox Mountain Drive, which typically opens to traffic around this time of year, will remain closed for the time being.

“It will remain closed as a measure to promote physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the City release.

The trail leading to the falls in Canyon Falls Park also remains closed for public safety.

During freshet season, additional water in the area can rise and cause slope instability.

Signs have been posted at the trail entrances to advise the public about the closures.
