(UPDATE: Oct. 27 @ 5:45 am): A second person at Kelowna Secondary School has tested positive for COVID-19, Interior Health has revealed.
The case is unrelated to yesterday's announcement.
The person, whose identity is confidential, acquired COVID-19 from a household member, Interior Health said.
In a separate document relating to the case seen by KelownaNow, the school explained that the person was on campus on Oct. 21.
The individual did not have symptoms at that time, the document said, and only became noticeably sick two days later.
The person did, however, follow all safety protocols while on campus, the school said, and is now self-isolating at home.
Interior Health is now undertaking contact tracing as part of its protocol for dealing with infections.
"As always, we remind people to stay home from school if they show any symptoms," the school added.
(Original story: Oct. 26 @ 5:45 am): A COVID-19 case has been confirmed at Kelowna Secondary School (KSS).
In an official release, the School District 23 explained that the person – whose role at the school has not been revealed – is self-isolating at home.
Interior Health will be following up with contact tracing, the release added.
In a letter sent to parents and seen by KelownaNow, the school explained that the person who tested positive was on campus on Oct. 19, 20 and 21.
The individual displayed no symptoms, the letter said.
“The safety and well-being of students, families, and staff remains our highest priority,” the school explained.
“Central Okanagan Public Schools will continue to implement the strict health and safety protocols and procedures that are in place so students and staff can continue to attend school as safely as possible.”
It added: “Central Okanagan Public Schools will continue to work closely with Interior Health to determine if any additional actions are required, and to support ongoing communication to the KSS community.”
