A rezoning application could lead to another pit stop in Kelowna’s popular north end beer district.

The owner of the Vaughn Avenue property where the Rustic Reel brewery sits has submitted the application to redevelop an old warehouse on the same site.

In 2019, the first of the three warehouses built in the 1950s was renovated into Rustic Reel and if the rezoning application is approved, the landowner would have the option to build a similar brewpub.

“Plans for the building are still being formalized, and the applicant is pursuing partnerships with local entrepreneurs to refine this project further,” states the report.

“The intention is to create a space that offers food and liquor service and entertainment uses such as movie screenings and potentially live music.”

Applicant Alec Warrender, manager of development for Faction Projects Inc., intends to use the new zoning to also bring high technology research, production design, small retail stores and spectator entertainment establishments to the property.

"The majority of the proposed uses are partially allowed within the current zone but the proposed amendment will help to generally broaden the type of businesses that can put down roots at 760 Vaughan,” said Warrender in a letter to council.

“It will celebrate rather than turn its back on its industrial history and context. It will continue to build upon and facilitate the growth in cycling and pedestrian modes of transportation that the area."

Council will consider the rezoning application on Monday, Jan. 20.
