Kelowna bank robbery suspect remains at large

Kelowna RCMP responded to an early morning bank robbery in Rutland on Thursday morning.

The robbery prompted heavy police presence at the Scotiabank along Highway 33 and the hold and secure of the nearby South Rutland Elementary School.

Police say the suspect claimed to be armed when he entered the Scotiabank and produced a note demanding money.

After fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, the 55-year-old remains at large.

The suspect is described as approximately 55 years of age, standing about 5 ft 7 in tall, wearing glasses, with a grey beard. He was last seen wearing a dark red jacket, a grey polo style shirt, a pair of jeans and a grey toque.

“An area of containment was established by police, who launched a ground search for the suspect, with the support of both plain clothes officers and a police canine team,” reports Kelowna RCMP.

“The suspect remains outstanding at this time as police continue their investigation, supported by the Kelowna RCMP Forensic Identification Section (FIS).”
