Operating a business during the COVID-19 pandemic has been anything but easy and restaurants have been hit one of the hardest.

Friday saw the city temporarily lose another one of its establishments thanks to a positive COVID test. Cantina Del Centro - Kelowna announced they would have to close for 14 days after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

"Opening a new business during a global pandemic is a crazy-whirl wind, & we are overwhelmed by the amount of support from our community since we opened our doors in September," wrote the restaurant. "We pride ourselves on our safety plan & procedures in place, however, even with our best efforts - some things are just bigger than us."

"With heavy hearts, we announce we will be closed for 14 days effective Nov 27th, as unfortunately, we have encountered a positive case of Covid-19 within our space. We feel it is our personal responsibility to keep our Guests & Staff protected, so they can enjoy our Cantina vibes in the future."

The restaurant thanked residents for understanding, mentioning that they'd be very excited to welcome guests back in the near future.

"We believe it's best to be transparent instead of keeping things quiet. Everyone must do their part to ensure our local community stays strong & healthy no matter the expense. We will be spending our time thoroughly cleansing & sanitizing the space to ensure safety upon re-opening."

Cantina Kelowna is expected to reopen on Dec. 10.
