A Kelowna man didn’t have the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.
The 24-year-old, driving a blue GMC passenger van, was stopped at an RCMP check stop in Rutland in the early hours of Sunday morning.
While interacting with the driver, RCMP detected an odor of liquor on his breath, as well as additional signs and symptoms of intoxication.
The officer on scene asked the driver for a breath sample roadside, which resulted in a fail.
The driver was then brought to the local RCMP detachment where he once again provided breath samples in excess of the legal limit.
This wasn’t the drivers first experience with this kind of procedure, as he was already driving with a prohibited license from a previous impaired driving incident.
“Upon further investigation, police were able to determine that the alleged impaired driver was also a prohibited driver, under several driving prohibitions issued against him stemming from a previous impaired driving incident,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
As a result, the 24-year-old was issued another driving prohibition and faces potential criminal charges.
He’s expected to appear in court on June 6.
O’Donaghey says the Kelowna RCMP issued dozens of violations and removed 14 allegedly impaired drivers, along with two prohibited drivers, from the streets on St. Patrick’s Day.
