The new fieldhouse proposed for Rutland Recreation Park is far more than just a new set of change rooms.

The new two-storey building would include new team change rooms, public washrooms, storage, field lighting and a community gathering place.

“The current building is in poor condition and doesn’t meet our city’s user group needs,” said Sandra Kochan, partnership manager with the City of Kelowna.

“This partnership with the Central Okanagan Rugby Enthusiasts (CORE) will provide a much needed revitalization of the space, and make it a true multi-sport hub for adult and youth sport programs, education, events and tournaments.”

CORE originally submitted the proposal for a new fieldhouse in October 2018, which would be a home for U13 multi-sport programs and a variety of adult field sports.

It’s now subject to City Council approving a memorandum of understanding (MOU), which CORE and the City of Kelowna are in the final stages of drafting.

While that happens, the City and CORE will host an information session for the public from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on April 3 in the Rutland Arena Lobby.

Representatives from both parties will be on hand to share information and answer any questions or concerns that the public may have.
