A known prospect of an outlaw motorcycle gang with ties to Kelowna was taken into police custody Wednesday afternoon and has now been formally charged with aggravated assault.

At about 9:30 p.m., the Kelowna RCMP Street Enforcement Unit (SEU) supported by the Kelowna combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) and the RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant on the Kelowna Hell’s Angel’s clubhouse.

“The warrant was related to an ongoing police investigation into an alleged serious assault carried out on May 6 at an establishment located in the 300-block of Bernard Avenue,” states RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the Kelowna RCMP. “Investigations into crimes that have connections to gangs or organized crime are extremely complex and can take a significant amount of resources. We are fortunate in this province to have a number of integrated and specialized units ready to assist.”

Although specific details of the alleged assault incident cannot be released as the matter is now before the Courts, police can confirm that the 41-year-old Kelowna victim was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services.

Just hours prior to the execution of the search warrant, RCMP arrested their suspect during a traffic stop without incident.

30-year-old Colin Michael Bayley of Kelowna, was held in police custody and has now been formally charged with a single count of aggravated assault connected to the May 6 incident. He made his first appearance in Kelowna Law Courts on today.
