Outdoor rink season has taken a huge hit in the Central Okanagan.
Today, the Regional District of Central Okanagan announced that it will not be opening the outdoor rinks at Joe Rich or Scotty Creek community parks this winter.
NowMedia reached out to the RDCO two weeks ago and was told the rinks would open once the weather conditions were appropriate, but the recent surge in COVID-19 cases has changed those plans.
“The Regional District fully supports efforts to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19 and has been following strict health and safety guidelines in its public programs,” said an RDCO release.
Parks staff will continue to closely follow information from the public health officer and will evaluate opening the rinks at a later date if things change in the coming weeks.

In addition, all in-person Regional District programs and events are postponed indefinitely and any program fees will be refunded.
All 30 RDCO Regional and Community Parks remain open for visitors to enjoy, but people are asked to keep a safe social bubble and practice physical distancing.
