Plans to redevelop the former site of Art Knapps have been officially submitted to the City of Kelowna.

The property located at 1994 Springfield Road was home to Art Knapps for nearly 35 years before the business was consolidated to its current location along Benvoulin Road.

Worman Homes is now applying to redevelop the site into four buildings consisting of 26,600 square feet of retail space, 26,900 sq. ft. of office space and 96 apartment rental units.

Most of the proposed development’s parking is located in an enclosed underground parkade accompanied by a small amount of parking at grade.

“The concept with the multiple buildings is to create a vibrant, open and walkable development,” stated Worman Homes in a letter to the City.

“Using smaller footprint buildings and allowing pedestrians and traffic to flow through the site creates a more welcoming and neighbourhood feel.”

While no variances are needed, the development calls for the property to be rezoned which means a public hearing on the project will be held in the future.
