UPDATE: New route for Remembrance Day parade in Kelowna due to ice and snow

(UPDATE: Nov. 9 @ 1:20 pm): The route of the Remembrance Day parade on Friday has been changed due to ice and snow.

The parade will now begin on Mill St. adjacent to Kerry Park at 10:40 am, eventually entering City Park via Abbott Street.

Mill St. will be closed between the laneway behind Kelly O’Bryan’s and Bernard Ave. beginning at 7:30 am.

At 10:15 am, the section of Bernard Ave. adjacent to Kerry Park and Abbott St. between Bernard and Lawrence Aves. will close to vehicle traffic to allow parade participants to pass.  

Following the conclusion of the memorial ceremony at the City Park cenotaph, at approximately 11:30 am, parade participants will march back toward City Hall along Lawrence Ave. and Water St.

As a result, from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm, Lawrence Ave. will be closed between Abbott St. and Water St., and Water St. will be closed between Lawrence Ave. and the Queensway traffic circle."

Parking will be restricted along the parade route from 7 am to 12:30 pm.

All restrictions and road closures are expected to be cleared by 1 pm.


(Original story: Nov. 8 @ 9:25 am): There will be a series of road closures and parking restrictions in Kelowna on Friday as the city marks Remembrance Day. 

A parade – led by Branch 26 of the Royal Canadian Legion – will progress through downtown before a ceremony at City Park. 

It will begin at 10:40 am along the lakefront promenade southbound from Stuart Park, entering City Park via Abbott Street.

The City of Kelowna said Abbott Street will be closed to traffic between Bernard and Lawrence Avenues from 10:30 am, with barricades on Bernard at Mill Street. 

When the City Park ceremony concludes at about 11:30 am, participants will march back towards City Hall via Lawrence Avenue and Water Street. 

Lawrence Avenue will be closed between Abbott Street and Water Street from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Over the same time period, Water Street will also be closed between Lawrence Avenue and the Queensway traffic circle.

The City explained: “RCMP and traffic control personnel will be stationed along the parade route to hold traffic at cross streets while the participants pass.”

Between 7 am and 12:30 pm, meanwhile, parking will be restricted along the parade route.

The City said all restrictions – parking and road closures – are expected to be concluded by 1 pm.
