Rogers Communications has announced it has begun hiring – remotely – for its new customer service centre in Kelowna.
The centre, which is yet to be constructed, will employ 350 people by 2021, according to the company.
Hiring and training workers will be done virtually due to the COVID-19 crisis.
The staff will also work from home until construction of the centre, which the company has previously said will be at Landmark 4, is completed in the fall.
“We are proud to invest in Kelowna and help boost the local economy by hiring for high quality jobs that will keep our customers connected to their world, which is critical now more than ever,” said Rick Sellers, BC president of Rogers Communications.
“We are excited to tap into the exceptional talent in the Okanagan region for our BC customer solution centre, which will provide further support for Rogers and Fido customers in the Pacific time zone.”
The team will be expected to handle about one million Rogers and Fido customer interactions a year.
“Rogers investment in a new customer solution centre once again shows that BC is a great place for businesses to grow,” said Michelle Mungall, minister of jobs, economic development and competitiveness.
“With this new centre in place, the region will benefit with more family-supporting jobs, which are especially needed at this time.”
Mayor Colin Basran, meanwhile, said the “sizeable investment” shows confidence in the region.
