In a release today, the Rutland Community Policing Office (CPO), located at 115 McIntosh Rd., announced it is reopened with expanded services.
Residents of Rutland can now report non-emergency police matters to the office including stolen and found property, suspicious or illegal activities and complete criminal record checks.
The office closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When the office closed it was staffed by the community policing coordinator and various police volunteers.
“This reopening is more than a return to normal for the Rutland Community Policing Office. It marks a significant expansion to the level of service provided there,” said Mayor Colin Basran.
“We heard from Rutland community members that there was demand and value for this kind of expansion, and we have responded accordingly.”
Now, there will be an information clerk onsite at the Rutland CPO from 9 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
City council approved the necessary resources for this full time, civilian employee position as part of the 2021 budget process.
The community policing coordinator will continue to work alongside the information clerk and serve as a liaison between the Rutland community and the RCMP.
“We are excited … Rutland is a vibrant part of our community and we are always working to improve the policing service we provide to our residents and businesses,” said Supt. Triance of the Regional Kelowna RCMP.
The service expansion now includes the Rutland town centre, Black Mountain, Springvalley, UBCO and Orchard Park.
