(UPDATE: 11:25 a.m.) - A Rutland home has extensive damage after a Thursday morning fire.

The Kelowna Fire Department was called to 520 Argyll Rd. shortly before 9 a.m., where they discovered flames engulfing the carport area of the home.

Although crews made a very quick knockdown of the fire, there was extensive damage to the original structure.

Along with the one home where the fire started, a neighbour's carport and van were impacted by the blaze as well.

An elderly woman was home at the time of the fire, but was able to get out of the home without injury before fire crews arrived. She was checked by BCAS and will be looked after by Emergency Social Services.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

(Original story: 9:40 a.m.) - A large house fire has broken out in Rutland.

According to a KelownaNow reader, the fire is near the intersection of Dell Road and Argyll Road in Rutland.

Flames have consumed the entire home, but everybody has made it out safely.

“As I approached the scene, I saw a man carrying out a lady from the burning house,” our reader informed us.

People are starting to leave neighbouring homes as well, as the fire looks poised to possibly spread.

KelownaNow has a reporter en route to the scene and will update this story as more information is made available.
