On Friday, students from Rutland Secondary School made a special gift to the South Rutland Elementary (SRE) School and stayed to read with some of the younger students.
The students who came were from the RSS Grad Council and were looking for a way to give back to their community.
"It's so nice to be able to spend time with these kids and share the love of reading with them. I can remember when older kids came to visit us in primary school, so I hope that this stays with them and maybe they'll do something similar when they get older."
They decided to raise funds for the SRE library to be able to purchase new books.
The RSS students were able to raise $600 at their Spring Fling Dance and Karaoke Event.
"I'm really moved that these students chose to give back to their own community with the money they raised," said Mark Watson, principal at SRE. "Their actions support the love of learning and literacy at our school, especially when they took the time to be mentors and read to some of the young learners."
