SOPA Fine Arts is hosting their first exhibition of the year, Concrete Canvas, which will feature a collection of contemporary street style art with bold compositions and rich colours.

The show runs from Feb. 2 to April 1, and will debut two new SOPA artists, Shawn Shepherd and Joey Vaiasuso, alongside Tyler Toews and Todd Maccormac.

In his latest work, the Victoria-based artist Shepherd has been taking inspiration from the junction of art and the economy, and Vaiasuso, who is based in San Diego, makes art that is deeply inspired by colours, process, music and feelings.

With art that often features bright colours and loosely representational elements such as geometric and cubist facial features, the Vancouver-based Toews leans into bold compositions and abstract expressionism.

Kelowna’s Maccormac draws upon his background in graphic design, as well as the exploration of street art and visual rebellion, and the pursuit of play and experimentation is often present in his work.

SOPA is hosting an Opening Night event at the gallery on Feb. 2 at 7 pm.
