(UPDATE: April 11 @ 1:45 pm) - A transport truck will remain wedged in a Kelowna townhouse until structural engineers say it's safe to remove it.

This after a terrifying crash this morning that saw the front end of the semi fully embed itself in a corner unit before it came crashing to a halt.

It veered left off Gordon Drive at the intersection with Cameron Avenue, which remains partially closed because the trailer is blocking the road.

While the semi will stay put for now, emergency crews are currently exploring the idea of removing the trailer portion in an effort to fully reopen Cameron Avenue.

The incident happened around 11 am with people, including an infant, home at the time.

They were shaken, but not injured, and members of the Kelowna Fire Department helped them down from a rear balcony.

"They were upstairs putting the baby to sleep," said the owner of the home, Samer Shehadeh. "My mother-in-law said the entire house shook and it was pretty scary."

He said it could have been a lot worse.

"I'm very thankful that nothing lit on fire, nothing exploded and the driver looked like he made it out okay."

Bystanders told KelownaNow he was able to stand on his own after he was freed from the wreckage, and police say he was uninjured.

A stop sign was sheered off, in the path the transport truck took, and other were no skid marks suggesting the driver may not have hit the brakes.

Power and gas has been turned off for two units of the townhomes.

Police and emergency services have been engaged to support residents of the two affected units.

(Original story: April 11 @ 11:15 am) - Emergency crews are on the scene of a scary-looking crash in central Kelowna.

A semi that was heading northbound on Gordon Drive crashed through a fence and right into a townhouse at Cameron Avenue, near Guisachan Village.

At this time, the cause of the crash is unknown.

KelownaNow’s Kent Molgat is at the scene and has learned that the driver reportedly walked away from the wreckage.

He was also told that firefighters helped a few people out of the townhouse.

Gordon remains open at this time, but traffic is understandably a little slow through the area.

KelownaNow will update this story as more information becomes available.
