The City of Kelowna says upgrades to the Okanagan College Transit Exchange will finally begin this week.
Following completed work in Rutland and the ongoing transformation in the Mission, the bus loop at Okanagan College is the final piece of the puzzle for the City’s plans to upgrade the three major transit hubs.
“Once complete, the improvements will provide safer, easier access to local businesses, restaurants, shopping centres, entertainment venues and employment opportunities,” notes a City release.
“Improvements to the Okanagan College Transit Exchange are designed to support growing student enrollment and future service increases.”

Here’s a look at what work is planned:
- Expansion of the existing bay and passenger areas.
- Two new bus shelters with bench seating to protect riders from weather elements.
- Enhancements to traffic operations on campus to improve bus movement and safety.
- Relocation of services to the primary exchange area on KLO Road, eliminating the need for buses to stop within the campus entrance way.
- Bicycle parking.
- Wayfinding signage to assist pedestrians, cyclists and transit customers in and around the exchange.
In addition, upgrades are meant to complement the Casorso Active Transportation Corridor extension, which will connect to Okanagan College along KLO Road.
Construction impacts are expected over the summer months before the project is expected to finish up in October.
The Okanagan College Transit Exchange project is being funded by BC Transit and the City with financial support from the provincial and federal governments as well.
