(UPDATE: June 28 @ 1 p.m.) - A boil water notice that has been in place for southeast Kelowna for the past week has now been lifted.
In consultation with Interior Health, the City of Kelowna has changed the boil water notice to a water quality advisory.
The initial boil water notice was issued after a pair of construction-related incidents disturbed sediment in the distribution system.
(Original story: June 21 @ 7:30 p.m.) - A Boil Water Notice has been issued for customers on the southeast Kelowna water supply of the City of Kelowna water utility after two construction related incidents.
This Boil Water Notice alerts water customers of an increased health risk associated with consuming water.
Some Southeast Kelowna neighbourhoods are currently without water, but crews are working as quickly as possible to restore service.
The city says that the "temporary and precautionary" boil water notice has been issued after two construction-related incidents disturbed sediment in the distribution system.
Once water service has been restored, the city will coordinate the water sampling and quality testing to ensure that water quality meets all drinking water guidelines. Until that process is completed, the Boil Water Notice will remain in effect.
“Interior Health has been contacted and City staff continues to monitor the situation. We will also continue to provide updates for residents as they become available,” said Kevin Van Vliet, Utility Services Manager.
The City advises that any water that has a chance of being ingested should be boiled, whether it’s for beverages, food preparation, coffee machines, brushing teeth, making ice and water for pets.
All water should be boiled for one minute, cooled and stored in clean, covered containers in a refrigerator. Residents are reminded to cool water prior to use to avoid burns or scalds.
Owners of all public facilities within the affected area are required to post Boil Water Notice at all sinks or drinking water fountains accessible to the public.
