Today, around 10:30 am, Kelowna RCMP located a black Chevrolet pickup which was reported stolen in Alberta.

This morning, officers in unmarked vehicles were supported by the RCMP Air Services to locate the stolen vehicle and followed it.

Officers located the vehicle last week but the driver fled when RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop and police did not pursue the vehicle in the interest of maintaining public safety.

Around 2:30 pm this afternoon, Kelowna RCMP attempted to stop the vehicle at the intersection of KLO Road and Benvoulin Road.

The driver allegedly attempted to evade police and struck several police and civilian vehicles in the unsuccessful attempt.

The male driver and female passenger were taken into custody. This situation is still under investigation.

“The police helicopter was able to maintain public safety and provide updates as to the location of the vehicle [...] Our officers did a great job in attempting to mitigate the risk in this incident,” says Cpl. Noseworthy.

“Though there was some damage to vehicles, no one was injured and two suspects are in custody.”
