The fourth annual Stone Soup Gala sponsored by Troika developments,  in support of the Niteo Africa Society, is returning to Kelowna on Saturday, April 14.

An event that blends together Kelowna’s love of food and philanthropy, the Stone Soup Gala offers those who attend a reason to get dolled up, eat delicious food and socialize all the while supporting an important initiative.

Niteo Africa Society is an organization that was started 10 years ago, right here in Kelowna. Their main goal is to provide communities in Uganda or South Sudan, with large shipping containers filled to the brim with books. These containers are then revamped with shelving to create a community library, that will provide students with important educational resources.

Niteo generally has no problems collecting books, as Okanagan schools, libraries and families are eager to donate and participate in book drives that the organization hosts. The hard part comes when the containers are ready to be sent, as it usually costs $10,000 to get one sent over.

Cue, the Stone Soup Gala. At the event, attendees will get to enjoy fine dining and entertainment all at once. As the chefs are challenged with the task of creating dishes inspired by popular children’s books in teams, and the attendees are in charge of crowning the winner of People’s Choice at the end of the night.

“It’s something that is a little different,” said event project manager, Brianne Swetlishoff.

“It celebrates the Okanagan by highlighting the food and wine aspect of things, which we all know and love.”

Keeping with the theme of literacy, this year’s event is hosted at the Okanagan Regional Library on Ellis Street.

“It is a unique venue, they haven't done many events like this there, it's so perfect for raising money for books and literacy, it makes sense,” added Swetlishoff.

Not only can attendees expect a delicious meal, but the event also plays host to a silent auction featuring great prizes like a weekend away to Veranda Beach in Osoyoos, delicious wine from Kitsch Wines and live entertainment courtesy of Adam Meachem.

The event is 50% sold out, but you can still get your hands on a pair of tickets to the April 14th event, by clicking here.
