Students at a Kelowna school have raised nearly $1,300 for an organization that helps families in the Okanagan.
Rutland Elementary School’s Student Voice Club raised the cash through a coin drive and Spirit Week.
They chose to give the money to the Okanagan Family Hub because the group “directly helps families” in the area.
"I am so proud of these kids for the thought they put into this donation," Grade 3/4 teacher Stefanie Oakes said.
"We teach them to be contributors to their community and they really embraced this opportunity by considering where the money might do the most good."
Christine Hawkins, who was representing Kelowna Community Resources during the presentation of the check on Friday, said she was “very grateful” for the donation.
"The generosity of the school community and the thoughtfulness of the Student Voice Club really underline the value of our work."
The Family Hub has helped over 12,000 families since opening three years ago.
