"In the past, we've had students as young as 10 share their powerful ideas," said Graham Johnson, vice-principal at École Okanagan Mission Secondary.

"If you know a young person, no matter their age, encourage them to apply because that idea they've been sitting on just might be what we need."

This year’s theme is "Ideas for Our Future," and whether someone's passion is education, art, science, social justice or advocacy, they are encouraged to apply.

"TEDx Youth is a reminder of the importance of listening to our youth," added Johnson.

"Their ideas matter, their ideas are innovative, and if past years are any indication, Central Okanagan youth can and will make a difference."

The event also provides an opportunity for students to craft their public speaking skills, learn to refine ideas and build their confidence.

Applications for students are open until the end of the month and are available online at this link.

Those interested in sponsoring the event can email organizers at TEDxKelownaYouth@gmail.com for a sponsor package.
