The Kidney Foundation of BC and Yukon is hosting an event at the Okanagan Golf Club on July 7.

Kelowna's first annual Tee Up for Transplantation charity golf tournament will include a day of golf, prizes, a silent auction and barbeque dinner in support of those affected by kidney disease.

One in 10 people in the BC and Yukon either live with or is at risk of developing kidney disease.

It is often called the silent killer, as kidney disease starts slowly and may not be detected until it has progressed to a point where less than 20% of kidney function remains.

While a kidney transplant is not a cure for the disease, it is a treatment that can offer an increased lifespan with a higher quality of life.

Kidney disease is the leading cause of death in Canada, and 78% of the Canadians on the transplant waitlist are waiting for a kidney. That number is expected to double in the next 10 years, according to the Kidney Foundation of BC and Yukon.

Tee Up for Transplantation will have a shotgun start at 11 am.

The entry fee is $215 and registration can be done here.

All proceeds will go towards the Kidney Foundation of BC and Yukon.
