July has arrived and with it comes the shut down of Bernard Avenue through downtown Kelowna.
Bernard has been shut down all week for set up, but the true experience of a car-free street begins today and it’s just in time for the long weekend.
For the rest of the summer, the pedestrian area west of St. Paul Street will feature live music, sunny patios, innovative public art, local retail, street games, free programs and plenty more.
“After two long years of pandemic-related disruptions, Meet Me on Bernard gives us all a chance to enjoy a classic Kelowna summer,” said Mark Burley, executive director of the Downtown Kelowna Association.
“It’s the perfect way to support the recovery of downtown businesses while reconnecting with friends and family.”
There are some new programs and opportunities as well, like pop-ups from local businesses, artisans and organizations at Neighbourhood Plaza and Community Square.
The City will also be launching a Meet Me on Bernard Mobile Pass today, which offers residents some deals from downtown retailers, restaurants and attractions.
“It’s been thrilling to watch this event evolve from a temporary pandemic measure into a vibrant and energetic platform for community connection that enlivens our public spaces,” explained Mayor Colin Basran.
“Whether you’re a business owner, an artist, a foodie, or just looking for a great time, Meet Me on Bernard has something for you this summer.”
