The March to Close All Slaughterhouses will take place in 37 cities across 16 countries this year, which includes Kelowna for the first time.
The Okanagan version of the walk is set for this coming Saturday and it aims to demonstrate the growing worldwide movement that’s seeking the closure of all slaughterhouses.
In Kelowna, the march starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Spirit of Sail monument, right at the base of Bernard Avenue.
From there, participants will go on a 3 kilometre walk through downtown before ending up back at that same start point for a vigil.
Organizers behind the event claim that more than 70 billion land animals and 1,000 billion aquatic animals are killed each year without necessity.
That translates to 164 million land animals and 2.74 billion aquatic animals every day.
Any and all members of the public are invited to join the peaceful march on Saturday
