It looks like the commercial project happening on Frost Road is moving along steadily.

People living in the Mission-Crawford neighbourhoods will soon have access to a Save On Foods.

At the end of November, a developer submitted a development variance permit to the city for the number and size of signs in the Village Centre Zone on Frost Road.

The location of the grocery store, which will also include a pharmacy and kitchen, is at 940-1030 Frost Rd. The new shopping centre has been dubbed the Mission Village at the Ponds.

Banners advertising the store first went up on the property earlier this summer and construction has been ongoing since early fall.

The city gave the green light to the first phase of the commercial project in August 2022 and approved the second phase in May 2023.

Once both phases are built out, there will be about nine retail and commercial businesses.

The location of the future Save On Foods will be part of the first phase and will be located near the corner of Gordon Drive and Frost Road.

The second phase will see another five buildings built to the east of the Save On Foods.

When these two projects were approved by city council, several councillors were glad to see the vacant property finally being developed and expected the new commercial services to alleviate traffic on Gordon Drive and Lakeshore Road.

So far, the only other business that’s been confirmed for the shopping plaza is a Shoppers Drug Mart.

According to Callahan Property Group’s website, there are preliminary plans for a liquor store as well.

The goal is to have the plaza open by summer 2024.
