Kelowna’s beloved outdoor rink at Stuart Park will open after all, but things will look a little different this year.

The rink will open on Monday, Jan. 11 with enhanced safety measures and a new pre-booking in place through the City of Kelowna website.

“In consultation with public health officials around outdoor public skating at Stuart Park, we have the go-ahead to operate at a restricted level until further notice,” explained Doug Nicholas, sports and event services manager.

“(That) means skaters will need to pre-book their skating time before heading down to the rink.”

People can book a 60-minute window of skate time and there will only be 40 skaters allowed on the rink at any given time.

Due to the health regulations currently in place, there will be no skate or equipment rentals this year either.

“Providing safe, active opportunities is important right now and we’re pleased to be able to open the rink, even within this restricted capacity,” added Nicholas.

“Though it is an outdoor venue and not mandated by the current provincial order, we still recommend wearing a mask or face covering as an added level of safety.”

The rink officially opens on Monday, Jan. 11 at 11 am and you can book your hour on the rink now by clicking this link.
