Not everyone is super handy, which is why the Repair Café is a great community event.

If you’ve got a lamp that’s on the fritz, a bike in need or repair or a favourite sweater that could use a mend, this is the place to bring them.

The Repair Café takes place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 30 at the Okanagan College Trades Building.

More than 30 repair specialists will be on hand to help you fix whatever it is you need fixed.

“We build these events around the volunteers available to us, so the things up for fixing are determined by who is on site on event day,” said Rae Stewart, waste reduction facilitator for the RDCO.

“Oftentimes, just by troubleshooting with a volunteer fixer, you may also come away with new knowledge just by watching and learning how to fix, so empowerment is also a nice piece of the puzzle.”

Stewart says the ultimate goal for the Repair Café is to cut down on waste and stop things from unnecessarily winding up in the landfill.

If it’s busy on Saturday, there will be a limit of one item per person to fix, but if it’s not too busy you’ll be able to get multiple things repaired if you need.

You can find out more on the Repair Café by visiting the RDCO website.
