A well-known bike thief pushed his luck a bit too far in his latest attempt.

On Thursday, Kelowna RCMP officers observed a hooded male slip past the gate of the local detachment’s fenced parking lot as a vehicle exited.

Once inside the police parking lot, the suspect went immediately to the bike compound and where the detachment’s bait bikes were located and waiting to be deployed in the community.

The suspect then attempted to ride the bike out of the parking lot but was quickly apprehended and arrested by officers.

As a result, 38-year-old Brian Richard Harbison was held in police custody overnight and brought before a Judge this morning where he was charged with the following:

“This brazen break in and theft is not a common occurrence here at the Kelowna Detachment and the irony that Mr. Haribson would take a Bait bike from the RCMP compound has won him a night in jail and more criminal charges,” stated Cst. Lesley Smith, Kelowna RCMP.

“This incident is also a clear indication of how quickly and easily these criminals can gain entry into a locked area and steal any item of opportunity.”
