(Update - noon) - Conservation Officer Terry Myroniuk says the two cougar sightings reported on WildSafeBC's Wildlife Alert Reporting Program are actually mislabeled.

"Sometimes the location of the person making the sighting is logged on their map instead of the location of the actual sighting for some reason.  In this case, I believe that a sighting in Lake Country that was referred to us by RCMP may have been logged in the map as the location of the RCMP," said Myroniuk in an email to KelownaNow.

"I believe that the Lake Country sighting was a young cougar in a semi-rural area adjacent to natural habitat and we have had no further sightings in that area."

(Original Story) - WildSafeBC Wildlife Alert Reporting Program is reporting multiple cougar sightings in downtown Kelowna over the past 24-hours.

The two sightings were made at the Kasugai Gardens behind City Hall on Water Street.

The initial sighting was made just before 8 a.m. on Monday, with the second sighting reported later that day around 6:30 p.m.

Following a recent rash of bobcat sightings, Conservation Officers have explained that heavy snowfall at higher elevations is likely causing the larger animals to venture further down into the valley.

KelownaNow will update this story as more information becomes available.
