A hunting hawk that went missing earlier this year has been reunited with its owner.
The local falconer (or austringer), Ashley Riphagen, asked for the public’s help in finding the missing hunting hawk back in March of this year.
Riphagen says the main concern was the safe removal of the leather straps around the hawk’s talons before releasing it back into the wild.
The hawk was found on Wednesday, October 11th, on KLO road. The hawk was stuck in a resident’s chicken mesh after hungrily trying to get at their chickens.
“He was a little underweight and was actually happy to see me,” says Riphagen.
The hawk will be kept over the fall and winter until it is healthy enough to be released in the spring.
When Riphagen releases the hawk back into the wild, NowMedia will be there to send him off.
