Unfortunate tragedy takes place at local hotel

Kelowna RCMP has confirmed today that a man is dead after officers found his body on the grounds below a 7th-floor hotel room on Saturday, October 14th.

NowMedia has confirmed with the General Manager of the Best Western that the unfortunate tragedy did take place at their hotel at the 2400 block of Highway 97 North.

At approximately 5 p.m, the Kelowna RCMP were called to the scene after receiving a complaint of a disturbance.

Upon attendance to the hotel, police determined the subject of the complaint was known to police and was being sought under the Mental Health Act for an earlier incident.

Police officers gained entry to the locked 7th-floor hotel room in an effort to apprehend the man under the Mental Health Act. The room was found empty, and the man's body was discovered on the hotel grounds below. 

The male was confirmed deceased at the scene. Police do not suspect foul play was involved.
