After a successful five month trial period, Unleashed Brewing Co. is looking for the community’s support to keep dogs in the taproom.

On Jan. 25, the owners were notified that they would no longer be allowed to have dogs in the brewery as of Feb. 15.

After months of negotiations with the City of Kelowna, Interior Health and provincial officials, the owners of Unleashed were finally able to welcome dogs in August 2022.

Unleashed Brewing's request was approved on a trial basis and the brewery became the first dog-friendly brewery in British Columbia.

“It turns out that people were so excited about being able to have their dogs at Unleashed that many other businesses began requesting the exemption as well,” explain the owners in their petition.

“Without a set policy in place around dogs within taprooms (or similar establishments), the authorities were undoubtedly put in a tough spot.”

The Change.org petition has gathered more than 3,600 signatures as of Monday morning. The owners hope to gather 5,000 signatures to show the support for more dog-friendly business in Kelowna.

“Unleashed Brewing Co. was bred from a love of craft beer, dogs, and adventure,” say Ashton, Shantel and Mike in a statement.

“We’d love to continue being the test subjects and help guide the creation of these policies. Let us continue to be the test space, guide the new policy changes, and spearhead this innovative concept for BC!”
