Some of our brightest minds are attempting to 'hack' one of our biggest problems.

In an event called 'Hacking House' those bright minds are coming together to look for some solutions.

"So it's this big abstract problem that they're bringing down to something a little bit more concrete," said Alex Goodhew at Accelerate Okanagan.

40 individuals from various backgrounds have broken into 9 teams to take on the challenge.

Each team is pursuing their own idea chosen from about a hundred that came forward from the group as a whole in a brainstorming session.

"So they're each going to be working on one of these ideas," said Goodhew.

"They might be solving the big problem for a group of recent graduates, they might be solving for folks who are homeless, they might be solving for families."

Each of the teams will present their pitch to a panel of judges at a public event at the new Metro Community Centre.

"It's really about assessing the creativity of these solutions," explained Goodhew. "We know affordable housing can't get solved in a day."

The public is invited to attend the event.

The doors open at 4:45.

People are encouraged to pick up a ticket online.
