A bear caused a stir in Kelowna after climbing a fence and crossing a road in a busy part of the city.

The black bear was spotted along Baron Road late on Tuesday.

Rob Wallace recorded the bruin from his balcony as it navigated the urban environment.

His sister, Michelle Wallace, then posted the video to warn residents they could have an unexpectedly wild encounter if they went for a saunter in the city.

Another resident also posted pictures of a bear in the same area, though it is not known whether it was the same animal recorded by Wallace.

Black bears are relatively common in Kelowna, with Mission Creek Regional Park – just south of Baron Road – and the nearby Scenic Canyon Regional Park particular hotspots for sightings.
