Business or pleasure?

Is golfing really good for business relationships, or is it just a nice way to relax and have fun?

At the Kelowna Chamber Golf Tournament Wednesday, there were a lot of smiles, but everyone associated with the event (who we spoke to) agreed that a round of golf can be an important part of building business relationships.

There is no doubt that a gorgeous spring afternoon made for a pleasurable afternoon for the 37th annual.

But everyone we asked said that a round of golf can boost your business game.

"It definitely does," said participant, Jim Kruiper. "Real business."

Tom Dyas of TD Benefits agrees.

"100 percent real business takes place out on the golf course," he said. "It's a great spot to get to know somebody."

He said fact that people are having fun, doesn't mean what their doing is unimportant.

"Business might not happen right at that moment," he explained, "but it does set the stage for future discussions."

"You get so busy at your office," said Cal Anderson from Parke Pacific Projects.

"I think it's a positive spot to have business happen."

Chamber members in Kelowna have been teeing off for this event for almost 40 years.

144 golfers teed off at this year's event in a Texas Scramble format with teams of 4 players.

"This is a great way in the Okanagan to make connections," said Chamber Executive Director, Dan Rogers, "enjoying yourself, meet new people and build relationships and that helps accelerate business certainly."
