After 40 years at its Dilworth Shopping Centre location, time has finally caught up to Taco Time.

"It is with a heavy heart I have to make the announcement," wrote owner Ray Heathcote in a message to customers posted at the drive-through window. "Taco Time will be selling its last taco."

Tomorrow's Taco Tuesday will be the last hurrah for one of the two remaining stores in Kelowna.

The store went down swinging, but a legal fight against the Vancouver-based landlord failed to extend the lease so the store's final day is tomorrow.

"I guess it's onto bigger and better things for them," Heathcote added in reference to the plans for a new Starbucks at the location.

He told KelownaNow the store has the highest sales of any location in the country.

"There's been a lot of tears," said Erika Hubley who works the drive-thru window. "We're just trying to kind of close this chapter on good terms and go to the next."

Heathcote said he's developed personal relationships with many of his customers over the years and he'll miss them.

"Saying thank you doesn't even close to how I feel," he said.

"It's been a great run," Heathcote added in closing."Thank you for all your years of support."
