Motherlove Ferments has been brewing up all sorts of flavours of Kombucha and Water Kefir for the past six years.

While they primarily relied on distribution in stores, restaurants and local farmers' markets, Motherlove is elated for its expansion into a brand new facility just off Clement Ave.

It brings the production of more ‘booch, a tasting bar, tours, fermentation classes, and a reservable space for community members to host meetings, photo shoots and events.

Prior to being in charge of Motherlove Ferments, Owner Rochelle Minagawa admits her love for fermentation began many years ago.

“A better-for-you beverage was what started this whole thing,” explained Minagawa.

“Like getting away from pop and unhealthy beverages, and kombucha and kefir are great because they have live bacteria, really good for the microbes, low sugar, it was just like a fun kind of experiment to do at home.”

Since their grand opening on Saturday, they’ve welcomed hundreds of guests to try out their on tap ‘booch and kefir through samples and tasting flights.

They even recently launched their spiked ‘booch which has yet to hit the shelves.

“For the past year or so we've been developing a new hard kombucha, we just launched it on Saturday, it’ll be for sale soon but right now we’re just tweaking the recipes,” she added.

“It is a type of kombucha called jun kombucha so this culture ferments primarily green tea and honey, so it's more of like a cider, mead type alcohol. We don’t add anything to it other than like the natural fermentation.”

Motherlove prides itself on brewing kombucha that isn’t overly acidic or sweet, as their drinks contain refreshing organic ingredients, no artificial anything and a high probiotic count.

Those looking for an in-depth look into how the popular health drinks are made can even grab a quick tour of their production facility, located just behind their tasting bar.

Guests are encouraged to grab a glass, try a flight, or bring home a growler from the Kombucha Bar on 109-889 Vaughan Ave.
